Kelly Flynn, her boyfriend Steve, and all their friends are gearing up for the holidays. Lambspun is decorated and there's even a lamb to allow customers and visitors to see the source of wool. Kelly and the rest of the Lambspun knitters have been spending part of their time making hats and mittens for a Christmas charity sale. Kelly and Jennifer have agreed to help teach some students at a local church to knit the hats and mittens too. Things seem to be on track for Christmas -- until a murder upsets all their plans.
I've been enjoying these books. There's a continuity of characters but they seem to grow a bit between each book because of the actions in previous ones. This time, we get a glimpse into the lives of Hilda and Lizzie, retired school teachers who are excellent knitters. There's a new member of the knitting group, a widow from Florida, and she's taken Lizzie under her wing and Hilda doesn't like it. Kelly and the rest of the group are trying to stay neutral but something just seems a bit off with the new widow and things aren't helped when her stepdaughter turns up and accuses her of murdering her father.
Once more Kelly's talent to see the details and add up the clues comes in handy as the gang tries to help Lizzie and their new friend. But as usual, things may not be what they seem and Christmas is getting closer and closer and there's so much to do.
The inhabitants of these stories are, like the rest of us, over committed and over stressed by the holidays. Nevertheless, they manage to find time to be there for a friend and with a lot of help manage to get all their gifts bought, packages wrapped, holiday foods baked, and still attend to work, friends, and investigations.
Visit Kelly Flynn and her friends for the holidays -- it's never dull and will make you nostalgic for good friends and good times.
This time there are knitting patterns (Lambspun Easy Cozy Mittens, Sweetheart Gloves, Ribbed Hat, Striped Christmas Stocking, and Blue Angel Christmas Stocking), and recipes (Maggie's Cinnamon Rolls, Pumpkin Nut Bread, Aunt Helen's Gingersnaps, Chocolate Pecan Rum Balls, Burt's Wassail (Hot Mulled Wine), Maggie's Chocolate Mint Fudge, and Carl's Doggie Christmas Cookies). If you somehow manage not to enjoy the mystery, you'll certainly enjoy these tasty recipes and the knitting projects.
