Welcome to the world of Kiki Lowenstein, scrap-booker extraordinaire. Kiki lives in St. Louis with her husband and daughter, Anya and she occasionally teaches scrapbooking classes because it is her passion. Until now. Now, her life has been turned upside down and inside out with the discovery of her husband's dead body in a hotel room in downtown St. Louis AND the insurance policy hasn't got her name on it. Kiki's got to find a way to survive, but everything she can think of is paper-thin!

Luckily Kiki's reputation as a scrap-booker precedes her and she is able to get a position at one of the most prestigious stores in town working sales and custom scrapbooks and events with the owner, Mert. It isn't anything close to her former life, but it is paying the bills and putting a roof over her head and Anya's, and she loves her work. But she continues to find information that doesn't fit with George's death, despite what the detective's investigation determined. Kiki is unconvinced that George's death was natural, and as time goes on, she finds more information that cements her determination to find out what really happened to her husband.

Knowing that her life wasn't picture perfect doesn't help her case - even with the dazzling Det. Detweiler - when George's 'other woman' is murdered. And Kiki's mother-in-law's attempts at gaining custody of her granddaughter are adding to the burden of stress when it seems that the scraps that are piling up are threatening to crowd out the truth!

This is the first book in the craft series featuring scrap-booker Kiki Lowenstein – called the Scrap-N-Craft series. Personally, I think it is one of the best cozy craft series I've ever read. Kiki could do with a really, really good dose of common sense in the business department, I'll admit, but the storyline has more depth than most and the character development was done well. The crafting area of the mystery was woven in well and definitely a part of the plot, which many novels aren't able to include. There are tips included in the book with easy to follow instructions – and there are some in the story as well. The author does use a particular photo publishing website, for which there is a coupon deal at the end of the book. I am unsure as to how long this will be honored, but it is worth a shot to use it. The next book in the series, called Cut, Crop & Die, is slated for June 2009.
