Dana Cutler is hired to follow a young woman and before she knows it the young woman is dead. There is also the case in Oregon of a convicted killer swearing that he was framed for the murder of a babysitter who worked for then Governor Farrington--the man who is now the President of the United States. As Dana Cutler and Brad, a young attorney assigned the Oregon case, get together and begin to compare notes they realize that they are on a trail that will take them to very high and dangerous places and eventually straight to the Oval Office.
Fans of Phillip Margolin can expect the same tight storytelling and grab you by the throat action that they have come to love from the author. New readers can expect to be sucked into a well crafted, well plotted story of intrigue and power where right does not always win out.
Margolin puts his characters in ever more difficult situations and requires that they use their wits to get out. Margolin has them running all over the country, getting threatened, shot at, and frustrated as lead after lead either turns into another dead end or produces so little information that's useful as to be almost worthless. Still, the plot moves forward and closer to resolution, whatever that resolution might be.
I like Margolin, I like his fast paced writing style and I like the way he moves ordinary people into places where they must act. I enjoyed the story and thought that Margolin did an excellent job of keeping his characters well grounded in their respective professions. The novel was fun to read, captivating, and totally enjoyable. A definite recommendation.
