A romantic mystery, Amanda Lee's new series of embroidery mysteries, begins with The Quick and the Thread. After a failed romance, accountant Marcy Singer retreats to the Oregon coastal village of Tallulah Falls at the urging of her best friend Sadie MacKenzie to start a new business. Her shop, the Seven Year Stitch, specializes in various types of embroidery and sewing. Of course, Sadie has other plans for Marcy as well. A determined matchmaker, Sadie has lined up handsome Todd Calloway for Marcy without telling her. Life in Tallulah Falls looks great until the former tenant of her new store turns up dead in the storeroom.
Before dying, the man left a scrawled note on the wall. He had tried to speak with Marcy during her opening reception, but had appeared drunk and she avoided him. Then someone murders her landlord. Marcy becomes a suspect.
The ex-wife of the tenant accuses Marcy of murdering her husband. The police detective agrees Marcy is innocent, and a mutual attraction between the two annoys Todd. However, the police chief is less willing to accept Marcy's innocence; after all, she is an outsider and comes from California.
Coincidence plays too big a part in the novel and may leave some readers wondering, but an exciting climax will hold readers enthralled.. Lee also writes another mystery series as Gayle Trent.. The next Embroidery Mystery, Stitch Me Deadly, will be followed by Thread Reckoning.
