J.D. Robb's newest book, Indulgence in Death is another page turner with a variation on a theme killer, taut writing, interesting plot twists, and the usual cast of characters. The series is up to 31 books and still manages to surprise.

The book starts off with Eve and Roarke actually taking a holiday. First a trip to Ireland to visit with Roarke's new-found relatives and for Eve to spring a surprise gift on him. It's too bad that the moment has to be spoiled by one of the children finding a body. Eve gives a quick consult to the new officer who has never handled a murder before, but they still manage to wind it up and travel on to finish their holiday.

Back in New York, Eve's barely unpacked before she's called in on a murder. A limo driver shot through the neck with a crossbow. Next it's a high level licensed companion stabbed with a bayonet. Not your average weapons. These require special licenses, but it seems the killer has high level tech skills as well as a taste for exotic weapons. It takes meticulous police work to pick away and find the clues that tie the murders together. As the picture develops, Eve realizes that the killer didn't just start with the limo driver, there have been more murders, and there will continue to be murders until he's caught.

This one deals with the problem of standing for the dead when the killer has money, power, and the will to use it. If the killer is willing to destroy Eve's reputation in order to discredit her case, can she bring justice to the murder victims?

Once again, a well done mystery that will keep you up to finish and find out who comes out on top. Also this book was much lighter on the sex scenes which made for more room for the actual story -- hopefully, this will be a trend that continues in future volumes.
