Terry Odell continues her series Blackthorne, Inc. with Ambrose Dalton, called Cowboy by his team of covert ops. On a routine mission to verify information on a potential client, he interrupts an unknown woman in the client's bedroom. Before he can question her, she slips away, and unbeknown to him has lifted his wallet. The next day when he reports to his boss, he finds his wallet on the desk and the woman, Miri Chambers, at the meeting as well. He is assigned to help her find what has happened to clients of Galloway House that have gone missing.
Galloway House provides places for the homeless, teaches skills, and feeds many more. Miri has no way to know what happens to missing people if she doesn't hear from them. Sometimes, they don't give their real names. Once a resident herself, Miri has taken on the mission of saving these people. However, when a meth lab nearby explodes, a resident claims to have seen one of the missing former residents on the scene.
Dalton's efforts have found information on two of the residents, now deceased, but nothing on the rest. Then, a current resident is arrested for buying allergy meds under a false id and that raises questions whether the others had done the same thing or worked in the illegal meth labs.
A former Blackthorne source alerts Dalton about her suspicions of Andrew Patterson, a rich philanthropist, building community housing for migrant workers near the Mexican border. Miri's brother-in-law has accepted an assignment there. Then, Miri gets a call from him that her sister is missing. Miri's sister had gone south with her husband to help with a community center.
Odell provides a lot of sexual tension and enough hot sex to please avid romance readers. It takes front and center in the novel, but eventually the mystery of the missing people leads to a major crime operation. An exciting climax should satisfy the most demanding thriller readers.
The series Blackthorne, Inc. are stand alone romantic suspense novels that focus on one or more of the Blackthorne team members and the involvement of that member with a woman. A crime of sorts is pending or has happened and the man focuses on solving it while also falling love with the woman. The first one, When Danger Calls featured Ryan Harper. Where Danger Hides focuses on Dalton and drug operations. A third, Rooted in Danger, is under contract and features the Australian, Foster Mayhew, known as Fozzie.

I like the homeless people aspect. Someone ought to care, what happens to them, right? Great review! :)
