A music promoter, who plans to turn Scumble River into "Branson of Illinois" comes to town with free booze and a free concert. One of the performers, a young woman named Suzette Neal arrives a little late for the concert, and later appeals to Skye to help solve the riddle of the death of Suzette's mother. Suzette was in the house when her mother died, and she remembers something entirely different from the official version. But then, Suzette is murdered and now there are two deaths to solve.
Are the deaths related? To find out, Skye has find out who Suzette's parents were and that's not easy to do with Suzette dead. But she manages to do it, and to solve the mystery surrounding both deaths. And she does all this while continuing to be a school psychologist, engaged to the local policy chief, and fending off the advances of her ex-boyfriend.
Skye also has a dog to care for in this book. It's Suzette's dog. Skye found him, Toby, at the scene of the murder. Toby's ultimate fate was a pleasant side story in the book.
I keep expecting the Scumble River books to get old, tired and repetitive. They don't. I enjoyed every last bit of this book, and I know you will too.
