When Washington, D.C., fashion reporter Lacey Smithsonian's former boyfriend, cattle rancher Cole Tucker, is arrested for murder, she digs her cowboy boots out of her closet and flies to his defense. She is certain of his innocence--until he abducts her during a daring courthouse escape.
Lacey knows Cole did not, could not, have committed murder, much less multiple murders. She just has to see him for a minute. After all, she couldn't be that bad a judge of character, could she? She almost married the man not too long ago. She just has to see him, face-to-face. And maybe there's a little story she might be able to write for her paper, if she could find a fashion angle.
After Cole snatches Lacey from the courthouse and then puts her on a horse to head back into town the next day, Lacey is even more convinced he is not guilty. If she could just find the clue, that one essential fashion clue, she could prove it. Most of the familiar cast of characters shows up to help. Brooke and Stella are mostly absent this book, but Brooke's brother makes an appearance. And Lacey’s mother and sister are with her this time.
This is a "go away I'm reading" book. I did not want to put it down. It moves fast, takes unexpected turns, and throws in a little bit of levity along the way. Very enjoyable.
