Alison Kerby runs a Jersey Shore guesthouse, not a bed and breakfast. And the guesthouse is haunted. Her ghosts, Maxie and Paul, are sad. Maxie wants to know who murdered her ex-husband, and Paul is missing his still-living almost-fiancée. And then, because her life is not complicated enough, her ex-husband, The Swine, shows up on her doorstep.
Alison agrees to try to find Paul's girlfriend. But Alison doesn't know how, and she won't accept Paul's help this time. Paul was, after all, a P.I. before he was murdered. But Alison is a P.I. now, and she wants to do this job on her own.
At the same time, Alison agrees to look into Big Bob's murder. Sure, he was murdered two years ago, and the body has just been found. And, Big Bob does not seem to be on the ghosternet (Paul and Maxie have not been able to contact him among the dead). But still, Alison starts looking into it. She begins getting death threats and goes for her first every motorcycle ride. And tries to avoid hurting her daughter while refusing to get back together with her ex-husband. Just what does he want, anyway? His presence there is very suspicious.
This is a quirky book, with some surprising characters. It has some family drama, even though some it is between Maxie, the ghost, and her still-living mother. It's a nice little book. Funny sometimes, charming sometimes, a little unnerving sometimes. It's a book you can read and enjoy, especially if you like a little paranormal in your mysteries.
