A terrorist known only as "the Palestinian" is operating in the middle east killing the head of Egypt's State Security in a cafe. This act catches the international intelligence community completely off guard.

When the terrorist strikes again, the CIA calls in someone they believe can figure it all out; a former operative who goes by the name Scorpion. But this is a mystery that will tax even Scorpion's skills as it sends him across Europe trying to track down a man he has little information on but whom he knows he must stop, and soon, as the balance of the world hangs in the ending.

Andrew Kaplan has written a page turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The writing is fast paced, intelligent, and masterful. The story is captivating, entertaining, and has more than a few twists to it. The only place where the book falls down a bit is in the area of romance. Where Scorpion seems more than capable in terms of tracking and outwitting his opponents he seems less than able to figure out a woman. It's a minor point although I did not want to leave it unsaid.

I enjoyed the book, pretty much from the first page to the last. I found the action credible and believable and the characters fun to hang out with and it's hard to ask more than that from a novel. Kaplan's writing is straightforward and geared to keeping a plot moving. Definitely recommended.
