In The Wedding Shawl, Izzy Chambers and Sam Perry are getting married. Nell and Ben Endicott will be hosting the wedding in their backyard. Nell even found a gardener to tidy up the garden a bit. Claire Russell, the new gardener, is a miracle worker because a beautiful backyard is now a fabulous and natural showpiece.
Everything is actually going pretty smoothly until the wedding coordinator, Tiffany Ciccolo, starts missing appointments. Then when she turns up dead there's more than a wedding to worry about. Everyone in town is nervous that the killer may be one of them.
A secondary story line is that Cass Halloran and Danny Bradley's relationship seems to be having problems. Danny's newest book is doing well and he gives a short lecture at the opening of the book to the Knitting Book Club on how newspaper stories can be inspirations for books. He uses a cold case he found in the town's papers about the death of Harmony Farrow. Many of those at the lecture were not happy that this particular cold case was brought to light again since it dredges up so many bad memories and emotions.
As usual, Sally Godenbaum pulls all these threads together for an interesting mystery, a heart-warming wedding showcasing loving friendships, and reminding readers what small town living is really all about.
Izzy's friends pull together to knit her a wedding shawl (the pattern is in the book) with each of them knitting a bit of the shawl in turn. They also band together to offer support to those who need it as well as to take another look at the cold case evidence to see if it's related to Tiffany's death as she was Harmony's best friend.
There are surprises and unexpected twists but the story moves smoothly from first page to last.
