by Denise SwansonReview by Sherry Lilley Signet Paperback ISBN/ITEM#: 9780451221414 Date: 03 April, 2007 List Price $6.99 Amazon US / / Show Official Info / Skye Dennison is planning to spend the long Thanksgiving weekend at a posh new spa in town, trying to find out who's digging holes and delaying the official opening of the spa. Her best friend goes with Skye. Skye's mother, Skye's ex-boyfriend's mother, and one of Skye's journalism students show up, too. The first day at the spa, while relaxing after a massage and full body wrap, Skye hears an unearthly scream and hops off to find out what happened. She hops because she's still wrapped in foil for the body wrap and can'get out, but she has to know who's screaming and if she can help. The screamer is Skye's best friend, in another treatment room. Does the term "bikini wax" mean anything to you? If so, you must understand the screams. Since that did not solve the mystery of who's digging holes and why, Skye still has a job to do over this holiday weekend. She also has to make time for a holiday dinner with her current boyfriend, the local chief of police, Wally. Skye's mother, however, wants Skye to get back with Simon. Simon's mother, Bunny, also wants Skye and Simon to get back together. Skye thinks her mom and Bunny are just at the spa to work on repairing her relationship with Simon, and make it difficult to spend time with Wally. However, when Skye finds a dead woman in the special mud bath, she starts spending more time with Wally as she tries to assist the police with their investigation. In the meantime, Simon is back from California and wants to make up with Skye, but he won't tell Skye the whole story about the friend he stayed with in California – a female friend. After all, Simon reasons, if Skye truly loved Simon, she'd trust him. Skye has a different opinion, and she's moved on to Wally, anyway. Skye and Wally have always had a strong attraction to each other, and now that they are both free to pursue the relationship, they are going to do just that. However, Simon is the local corner so, when Skye finds the body, she has to deal with Simon. So does Wally. Everybody is just a mite uncomfortable with the situation, especially with Meg (Skye's mom) and Bunny trying to get Simon and Skye back together. If it sounds like there is more romance than mystery in this book, maybe there is. The mystery, however, is there. And it's a good one. Who did kill the gorgeous blond in the mud bath, and why? She, Esmé, the dead woman, certainly had enough enemies. And many of them were also at the spa. And maybe her death was an accident? But how do you accidentally drown in a mud bath? This is a charming series of books, with an enjoyable cast of characters. The trials and tribulations of Skye's life, such as they are, are entertaining reading. The mystery is a good one with enough clues to keep it interesting but not enough to give away the answer until the very end. For fans of the cozy mystery, this book should be on your list of must reads.
