Claire Malloy wants a house so she can quit tripping over boxes and assorted household items now that Peter, her new husband, has moved into her tiny apartment with her and her daughter Caron. After much searching, she finds the perfect house. If she can just clear up the matter of the dead bodies, she might even be able to move in.
Claire, fresh from her somewhat odd honeymoon, must face the harsh reality of life with her new husband, police chief Peter Rosen, and her teenage daughter Caron. They simply ca'’t fit into her cozy two bedroom apartment.
After a week of unproductive house-hunting, Claire finally finds the perfect place. It's a gorgeous, large old home on a big plot of land in Hollow Valley. But there are only a few problems, such as the real estate agent disappeared mid-showing, a lawsuit for the disposition of the property after the last owner died in circumstances labeled ’accidental’ but were actually both ’mysterious’ and ’dubious’, and the sudden death of the current owner.
Claire wants this house, and decides to do some investigating of her own.
It's a good book. Ms. Hess has a unique sense of humor that comes through in her books. I have enjoyed every book in this series, and this is one of the best. It should be at the top of your To-Be-Read pile.
