Bad Wife is Jacqueline Seewald's fourth Kim Reynolds Mystery featuring Kim, a psychic and librarian, and her lover, police detective Mike Gardner.
Mike's ex-wife returns and declares she is still married to Mike. The ex-wife wants money and insists Mike sell his home to get it. She cares nothing for him or the two daughters she left with Mike.
Kim broke off her relationship with Mike.
When Mike's supposedly ex-wife turns up dead, suspicion immediately falls on Mike, especially since he threatened to kill her in front of a witness. The detective in charge of the case is determined to put Mike away regardless of the evidence.
Kim, a psychic, uses her abilities to try to save Mike. She and Mike’s partner, Bert St.Croix, believe in him and begin to investigate what the wife did when she came back to town. Witnesses tell Kim the woman met with several prominent men. Kim suspects blackmail as a motive. The men the ex wife met include the police chief, a mortician, and the mayor.
Kim's psychic insights are sporadic, but helpful in focusing her in the right direction. She has a strong psychic link to Mike and knows when he is in danger.
Seewald provides enough red herrings and action to keep the pages turning, including an exciting climax. Previous novels in this series are The Inferno Collection, The Drowning Pool, and The Truth Sleuth. She also has a number of historical romances and one children’s book. The Third Eye, a mystery, features a teen sleuth.
