Halloween in Crystal Cove is always a lot of fun. The town is decorated, the shopkeepers have a window decorating contest, and the Winsome Witches, a local charitable organization, throws their annual fundraiser. Jenna Hart has packed The Cookbook Nook full of items perfect for the season. It's just a gorgeous, wonderful time of year.
Unfortunately, the Head Priestess of the Winsome Witches is murdered, putting a damper on the fun. Robbing the season of even more of the fun, Vera, Jenna's aunt, seems to have lost her ability to foresee the future. She's feeling a bit responsible for the murder. How responsible is she? Jenna will just have to find out.
Jenna also has a few issues of her own to work out. Interestingly, she addresses the issue of why is she surrounded by dead people? Is it her fault that murder has happened more frequently since she moved back to town? Is she a murder magnet? Also, she decides to put her talents to work and actually host a party. So she's never been much of a cook. She's learning, isn't she? Yes, she is. I know these are not really part of the mystery, but they make a fun part of the book.
The journey to the unraveling of the mystery is very enjoyable. The characters, the town, everything works together to produce an enjoyable book. It's hard to put down. At the same time, it's a light, fluffy mystery. Hard to put those two together, but she did here, and did it well. This is a wonderful book.
