The US government is sequestered and all White House entertaining has been put on hold. It's the perfect time for four foreign chefs to pay an extended visit to the White House kitchen and participate in preparing a dinner for a visiting VIP. But one of the chefs may have a dangerous agenda of his own.
White House Executive Chef Olivia (Ollie) Paras takes in stride the responsibility of keeping the kitchen's foreign visitors occupied and entertained. But when one of them dies she finds herself caught up in international intrigue. She doesn't know which, if any, of the remaining three chefs to trust, not to mention their country's liaison officer who is sent to join them and manage the situation.
On the home front, Ollie is now married to Secret Service Special Agent Leonard Gavin. From out of nowhere comes a major decision the couple needs to make about a possible future direction for their lives.
I'm always happy to curl up with the latest of Hyzy's White House Chef mystery, one of my favorite series. I'm even willing to grant Ollie a little slack when she's slow in figuring out a fairly obvious hidden agenda -- after all, she has huge responsibilities and a lot on her mind. Because once again, the mix of backstage workings of the White House, details of a professional kitchen's operation, and national or international complications proves to be a winning combination.
