Accessory to Murder (Josie Marcus, Mystery Shopper, Book 3)
by Elaine VietsReview by Sherry Lilley Signet Paperback ISBN/ITEM#: 9780451222589 Date: 06 November 2007 List Price $6.99 Amazon US / Amazon UK / Show Official Info / Mystery shopper Josie Marcus is a good and loyal friend. So when her friend Alyce needs help, Josie is there. Of course, Alyce needs help because her philandering husband has been accused of murdering the famous scarf designer he was philandering with. But Alyce believes her husband is incapable of murder. Philandering, yes. Murder, no. Alyce and her husband live in an exclusive gated community. When the lovely and talented Halley, also a resident in the exclusive gated community, is murdered, and the police arrest Jake, Josie turns her talents to finding the real killer. At the same time, she has a job to do – mystery shopping. Because Josie has annoyed her boss, she has the worst of the worst mystery shopping assignments to do and that's not helping her look for the truth about Halley's murder. There is no help forthcoming from the community Alyce and Jake live in, either. The community has decided to snub Alyce because of the shame they believe she and her allegedly murderous husband have brought to the community. Also, Josie's mom thinks Josie needs a man to take care of her and keeps setting up blind dates for Josie. Josie's life is, if nothing else, full. The book is very entertaining. I was impressed with the description of the exclusive gated community which seems to be a bit of a matriarchy run by a puritanical old bat. She, the old bat, is a wonderful, horrible character, and the way she rules the community is amazing and probably not too far from the truth. Alyce is a sympathetic character. She's happy in her life and is willing to overlook the bad stuff until it gets so bad there is no way to overlook it. The solution to the mystery is not too much of a surprise, but it's not too obvious, either. I enjoyed the book and I recommend it to the cozy fans.
