In Hughes' follow up to Wreath of Deception, we return to Abbotsville's one and only craft shop, Jo's Craft Corner. Jo is newcomer, Jo McAllister, who moved to Abbotsville after her husband died suddenly. She and her friend Carrie are finally getting some return on their investment (the shop) when word spreads that someone is buying up the downtown property to raze it and put in a housing project. Parker Holt is a local developer whose reputation leaves much to be desired, but Jo's main concern is whether or not her landlord accepted his offer. While trying to reach Max, her landlord – or Parker, Jo decides to try and catch Holt when he goes to his house to check on some renovations Carrie's husband is doing. Getting no answer at the front door despite the car in the driveway, Jo decides to check the basement entrance – and gets one of the biggest shocks of her life!

Jo is wrapped up in her new community with her craft workshops and her best friend's family. But when she is unable to contact the developer, she takes matters into her own hands and decides to track him down. Little does she know that she would find him dead in his basement, with no obvious sign of death? Once again, she is drawn into a local murder where her life could depend on the outcome. Reluctant to let the authorities handle it, as handsome and attractive as they may be, Jo decides that she needs to do a little sleuthing of her own to find the answers she needs, and to also clear her friends' reputations so they may resume working to save their floundering construction business. She enlists the assistance of her regular workshop members, this time making beaded jewelry, to help her gather information on all the locals who may have been responsible for Holt's last moments.

This cozy is something that craft lovers will enjoy, along with those who eschew a lot of violence. However, I have to admit that I did find Jo to be a little pushy and annoying in her reluctance to let the authorities do their job, even for an amateur detective. She's a newcomer to the town and yet feels that her one experience with murder has made her an expert in getting answers. The beading aspects of the case are great and realistic, and the characters are lively and interesting.
