What Are You Wearing To Die?: A Thoroughly Southern Mystery
by Patricia SprinkleReview by Sherry Lilley Signet Mass Market ISBN/ITEM#: 9780451223258 Date: 05 February 2008 List Price $6.99 Amazon US / Amazon UK / Show Official Info / In the latest installment in this series, Mac is safe at work, and Joe Riddley intends to keep her there – even if he has to handcuff her to her desk. A wild young woman has died. At first, it's believed she died in a traffic accident. However, she never dressed so conservatively, and her injuries are not consistent with a traffic accident. They are more consistent with being beaten by a baseball bat. Joe Riddley does not want Mac to investigate and risk getting hurt, again. Mac tries to stay out of it, but there are just so many questions that no one seems to be asking. And when a second young woman dies, and is again dressed entirely out of character, Mac is just brimming with questions. No one else seems to be asking the questions Mac wants answered. They local police are trying, but there are other things besides murder going on and the police cannot devote all their resources to solving these murders. This is, as always from Ms. Sprinkle, a wonderfully book. The characters are well drawn, engaging people. You probably know people just like them. The atmosphere of the town, a slowly dying little town, with merchants unable to compete with a big box store, feels right on the money. The reactions of the characters to the murder, and the solution to the murder, and well done. The solution to the mystery is, in spite of the clues sprinkled through out the book, a surprise. This book is well worth the time it takes to read it. It is a wonderfully entertaining book, with enough suspense to keep you guessing, but not enough to keep you looking under the bed for the monsters at night.
