Dark Tort: A Novel of Suspense (Goldy Bear Culinary Mysteries)
by Diane Mott DavidsonReview by Sherry Lilley William Morrow Hardcover ISBN/ITEM#: 0060527315 Date: April, 2006 List Price $24.95 Amazon US / / Show Official Info / With the Jerk dead, who'll be the bad guy? There's a couple of potential bad guys. The county inspector and a rival caterer come to mind. Neither of them make an appearance in this book. So, who is the bad guy? Who killed Dusty? Goldy Schultz literally trips over a dead body at the beginning of this book. She has a new job, catering for a law firm. She was to meet Dusty, her neighbor and friend as well as a paralegal at the law firm, to prepare breakfast for an early meeting. But Dusty's dead, and because Goldy found the body, she's a prime suspect. So is Dusty's ex-boyfriend, but that doesn't feel right to Goldy. Dusty's mother, also Goldy's neighbor and friend, asks Goldy to find out who killed her daughter, and Goldy agrees. There are so many questions that need to be answered. Why did Dusty want to learn to cook? What happened to the bracelet Dusty had been wearing? Who trashed Dusty's car? What might Dusty have discovered in her work as a paralegal? Was something not quite right going on at the law firm? Why is the boyfriend an ex? Who is the new boyfriend? Would the answers to those questions point to the killer? Goldy needs to know. This book is full of wonderful characters, young, old and in between. The grief of Dusty's family seems very real. The emotions brought out by loss and pain are well portrayed. The joy in friends and family is, too. The setting is fabulous – a small, but not too small mountain town where everyone knows everyone. I loved this book and would highly recommend it to everyone who likes a cozy read.
